Format Instagram Bio

“More information in my Instagram bio” – How often have you read this sentence or heard it in a story? If you are just as active Instagram users and consumers as we are, then you have certainly been dozens or even hundreds of times.

It is therefore important that your own Instagram bio (graphy) also looks so appealing that you can confidently send your followers there. This applies all the more to companies that want to present themselves and their products and services here in the best possible way.

Unfortunately, formatting your own bio correctly is not as easy as you might think at first glance. Anyone who deals with it will quickly find that officially there are no line breaks or even (several) spaces. We don’t even want to talk about further formatting.

We have therefore put together a list of tricks and tricks for you to do with organics:

Framework

The important things first. The Instagram Bio has a few restrictions that you cannot avoid:

  • A maximum of 150 characters is possible.
  • Clickable website links cannot be used in the normal biofield.
  • No formatting (bold, italic, etc.) is possible.

Line breaks

If you want to format your bio on your mobile phone, you will quickly be confronted with the first problem. How the hell do I get a line break?

The solution is relatively simple: put your mobile phone aside and log into your Instagram profile with your computer. Here you can use the return key as normal to create a line break, which is then adopted and saved.

If you can’t keep your fingers off your phone, go to your Notes app, write the text there with breaks and then copy it to your profile.

If you have linked your IG account to Facebook, you can also make the change on the Facebook page in the Instagram settings and do not have to log in to IG. This solution is also practical for companies and agencies in which not everyone has access to IG access data.

Insert spaces at the beginning of the line or between words

Instagram filters out multiple spaces in the text and completely prevents spaces at the beginning of a line. If you want to use them anyway, you need a trick. Instead of normal spaces, you use “safe” spaces.

But where do you get these from? It’s easy, you can copy it out of the blog post here. Here between the two arrows, we have inserted a few “safe” spaces for you:

-> ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ <-

Sounds strange, but that’s how it is. You can now use these spaces anywhere. Also in image descriptions and comments.

Center text

What comes next is not for people who prefer easy ways. We want to centre the text in the bio. And for this, we simply use the previous tip.

We add as many “safe” spaces in front of the individual lines of the bio that it is at least optically centred. You may have to try it out a few times, save it and check it on your mobile phone.

So here’s the tip: Make the changes on the computer.

Insert emojis

No big surprise: of course, you can also use emojis in your bio. This in turn works best on the mobile phone, where there is an emoji tattoo.

Unfortunately, our experience with the Instagram profile in the Facebook page settings on the computer shows that the emojis are lost in this way. So: only add emojis at the very end and on the phone.

Hashtags!

Whoever says emoji must also say hashtag. It is possible to include hashtags in the bio. these are clickable and take the user to the corresponding overview page for the hashtag. This is nice and important, especially for branded hashtag stories.

@mentions

There is another possibility to include clickable content in the bio: The @ mentions. So marks from other Instagram profiles, regardless of whether they are brand or private profiles. simply mention the corresponding account with an @ sign in front of it. This makes sense for brand ambassadors, employees or just fans of a brand.

Yes, you could even go a step further and maybe “sell” or rent out mentions in the profile. Whereby it will certainly be difficult with legally secure advertising labelling.

More tips and tricks:

If you have an Instagram business profile, the network allows you to add a little more information. For example your full address or a call-to-action button. You should definitely use this opportunity. A business profile does not cause you any disadvantage.

The right name is also important. Please use your real name or the name of your company. You can also add a claim or industry information to this. So you have a better chance of being found in a search. You have a maximum of 30 characters for the name.
